Racing president backs Lautaro Martinez to join Barcelona

Racing president Victor Blanco has backed Lautaro Martinez to make the move to the Camp Nou d during the summer transfer window. The Argentina international joined Inter Milan from Racing a couple of years ago and he has since contributed 26 goals and five assists across all competitions for the Serie A side.

His performances have definitely caught the attention of Barcelona, who are said to be planning a successor for Luis Suarez. In a recent interview, Victor said that Martinez would become a starter in no time, should he make the move to the Catalan giants. He added that the Argentine may not rush his decision and will take his time before pursuing a bigger challenge.

Roger Mitchell unsure whether the Scottish season will be completed

Former SPFL chief executive Roger Mitchell is unsure whether the Scottish Premiership season till reach its conclusion following the suspension to the coronavirus pandemic. Celtic made significant strides towards a nine-straight league title between January and mid-March but their procession to the trophy has been delayed with the untimely break.


In an interview, Mitchell said that the Hoops are pretty much guaranteed the league title with their 13-point advantage over Rangers with nine games to play. Meanwhile, the Hearts are rooted to the bottom of the table with a six-point gap to safety and Mitchell believes the season should conclude with the present standings deemed as final.

TIERNEY CLOSE TO ARSENAL RETURN

Kieran Tierney is close to making his return for Arsenal. Sidelined before Christmas with a dislocated shoulder sustained in the 3-1 win over West Ham United, the Scotland international’s slated return date was at some point next month. And it would appear that Tierney is keeping with this schedule.


Speaking ahead of the Gunners’ FA Cup fifth round clash against Portsmouth on Monday night, head coach Mikel Arteta has refused to say when Tierney will return to action.

Robinson urges Celtic to keep hold of Craig Gordon beyond next summer

Former Premier League star Paul Robinson has urged Celtic to renew the contract of back-up goalkeeper Craig Gordon. The Scottish footballer had been the number one choice for the Hoops for the past few years but things have changed with the temporary signing of Fraser Forster from Premier League side Southampton.


The England international has come with a number of top-notch displays for the Glasgow giants this term and he recently starred against Rangers in the Scottish League Cup final, where he made multiple stops in a slender 1-0 win. Neil Lennon talks about Fraser Forster after League Cup heroics

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has heaped praised on Fraser Forster’s display in the Scottish League Cup final against Rangers on Sunday. The England international has been the regular between the sticks for the Hoops since his season-long loan move from Southampton last summer and he has proved his worth with a number of top-notch displays.


On Sunday, the experienced shot-stopper came up against a Rangers side, which flourished on the attack but he managed to keep out the threat for the entire 90 minutes. The 31-year-old made a single-handed save to deny Ryan Kent early on in the game and he thereafter made a string of blocks to deny Alfredo Morelos.

Celtic boss believes Van Dijk deserved FIFA’s Best Player

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has said that Virgil van Dijk deserved FIFA’s Best Player of the Year award ahead of Barcelona’s Lionel Messi based on the domestic and European performances last term. The Dutch defender helped Liverpool preserve the best defence across Europe’s top-five leagues last season and he was able to end the campaign on a high with the Reds winning the Champions League.

As such, the Netherlands international was recently presented with the UEFA Player of the Year award and he could not dislodge Messi in the race for FIFA’s individual accolade. Speaking to reporters, Lennon said that Messi’s record cannot be ignored, considering the Argentine has been constantly scoring loads of goals for the Blaugrana.

Dedryck Boyata explains the real reason behind Celtic departure

Belgium international Dedryck Boyata has said that he did not go on strike to force through an exit from Celtic last summer. The centre-back spent four years with the Scottish champions but he left them on a free transfer at the end of last season after opting against signing a new contract with the club.

Boyata has since signed for Hertha in the Bundesliga and he has now clarified that he wanted a fresh challenge away from the Hoops. Speaking to Record Sport, he told: “It’s not true, I was accused of strikes last summer so I could move. I also played through the season, was in the Scottish team of the year and played my part in the title. The truth is, I’ve won everything at Celtic in four years. But it was time to start something new.”

Celtic admit they were helpless in keeping hold of Kieran Tierney

Scottish champions Celtic have admitted that they were helpless in their attempt to keep hold of Kieran Tierney as the defender was keen on pursuing a bigger challenge elsewhere. The left-back was linked with a move to Arsenal since the beginning of the summer transfer window and the move eventually materialised before the English transfer deadline.

Shortly after the player’s departure, Celtic acknowledged that they could not convince the defender to stay put with the club, a statement read: “We did all we could to keep Kieran at Celtic. While the club did not need or wish to sell Kieran, this was an opportunity which Kieran very much wished to pursue and with the club having received a significant offer, we have agreed to the transfer.”

Neil Lennon suggests Arsenal may have ended Kieran Tierney pursuit

Celtic head coach Neil Lennon has indicated that Arsenal may walk away from the pursuit of Kieran Tierney after failing to reach a transfer agreement. The north London side recently made a renewed £25m bid for the Scotland international but the structure of the proposal has not gone well with the Hoops.

Speaking in a press conference, Lennon acknowledged that the Gunners have not come up with a third offer for the defender and there remains the strong chance that Tierney would remain with the club for the forthcoming campaign, he said:“It’s as you were really. I’ve had no information other than there were two bids that came in from Arsenal that were rejected. There has been no further inroads into that really.

Tierney’s agent opens up on defender’s future amid transfer interest

The agent of Kieran Tierney has said that Celtic will have the final say on whether his client remains at Parkhead beyond the summer. The Scotland international has racked 170 appearances since graduating through the club’s ranks but his immediate future with the club has come under doubt amid the transfer interest from Arsenal and Napoli.

Speaking to BBC Sport, agent Allan Preston said that the defender has affection for the Scottish champions but there will come a time whereby he will pursue a bigger challenge. When pressed on the speculation, he added that the player would only leave at the right price amid the supposed interest from Napoli and Arsenal.
