CELTIC BAG FIRST CHAMPIONS LEAGUE POINT

Scottish champions Celtic have bagged their first point in the Champions League this season following the 1-1 draw with hosts Shakthar Donetsk. The two teams have been drawn together in Group F alongside defending champions Real Madrid and RB Leipzig.

Celtic are back in the Champions League group stage for the first time in four years after they won the Scottish Premiership title last season ahead of Old Firm rivals Rangers.

In their first game back in the Champions League group stage, Celtic were beaten 3-0 at home by holders Real Madrid with all the three goals scored in the second half. Celtic gave a good account of themselves during the game especially in the first half as they played out a goalless draw with the Spanish giants at the end of the first 45 minutes. Real Madrid then showed their superiority with three goals in the second half. Frenchman Karim Benzema is the star player at Real Madrid and he was forced off injured in the first half. Without him, Real Madrid scored three second half goals. Brazil international Vinicius Junior scored the first goal of the game off the assist from Uruguayan midfielder Federico Valverde. Belgian star Eden Hazard came on for the injured Benzema in the first half and he provided the assist for the second goal scored by Croatia international Luka Modric. Hazard scored the third Real Madrid goal to seal the win.

Celtic have been  able to bounce back from the home defeat to Real Madrid with the 1-1 draw against hosts Shakthar Donetsk and they could have won if they were more composed in front of goal. The two goals were scored in the first half after young Ukrainian winger MikhayloMudryk cancelled out the opener from Celtic via the tenth minute own goal from Ukrainian midfielder ArtemBondarenko.
