Brendan Rodgers is excited that his Scottish top flight champions’ side qualified for the Champions League playoff stage after seeing off Rosenborg. James Forrest handed them the required points with his stunner in the 69th minute.

The Scotland international went agonizingly close earlier in the game before he finally got his sole goal to hand Celtic a 1-0 aggregate win.

Rodgers praised the performance of the team despite the limitations ahead of the duel.

“It was a big performance. Take away the win, what was important for me was the maturity. This time last year I was going into these games with a hope that we could go through, to try to find a way.

“To come out here and play to that level with that composure – everyone was talking about the pressure of the game so to play that way was sensational, really,” the former Reds boss said. Continue reading “RODGERS HAIL UCL PLAYOFF QUALIFICATION”

On September 28, Celtic received Manchester City at the Celtic Park as both clubs had to face off for a Champions League and this match concluded with each side scoring 3 goals as the scoreboard displayed 3-3 at the end of it all.

This match was one of the most exciting Champions League games in recent times as plenty of goals were scored and there was not any club that had the clear upper hand.

After everything was said and done, both teams had to settle with snatching 1 point each out of this game and even though Celtic FC needed a victory in order for them to begin their march for a higher spot in Group C of the Champions League which consists of: Barcelona, Manchester City, Borussia Monchengladbach and Celtic.

This draw was still a fairly positive result for Celtic as they managed to hold their ground against one of the favorites of their group and Brendan Rodgers had a few things to say after the match was over as the 43 year old Northern Irish manager said:

“I can’t criticize the team, but there are always elements we can be better in. We were brilliant, the pressing and the energy. Every time we went forward we looked like we could score.Apart from the Barcelona game these players have been operating at a high level this season. CELTIC YOUNGSTER TARGET LEAGUE CUP GLORY

Scottish giant Celtic lost out twice to Ross County and Rangers in the semi final of the League Cup.

Kieran Tierney, who won the Young Player of the Year award last term, says that his target this year is to go all the way in the League Cup with the club.

Tierney was outstanding last season. He played in more than 30 games for the club, enjoying his breakthrough season. The League Cup miss was a huge miss in his story. Celtic take on Alloa Athletic in the game before a semi final of the domestic cup on Wednesday, and Tierney wants the club to make up for past losses.

“We want to win a cup. It comes quickly so if we win this we are in the semi final stage. We just want to get out and do the job. There were a few lows in Europe last year and the semi finals weren’t great. But it was an experience for me because I had never played in either,” the youngster started out. He went on to add that he felt horrible when they were defeated in the semi final, and that he never wants “to feel like that again.” Continue reading “CELTIC YOUNGSTER TARGET LEAGUE CUP GLORY”

Kenny Jackett is expecting to see much more from Wolverhampton

Wolverhampton collected their first 3 points of the season after defeating Blackburn Rovers but Kenny Jackett was not fully convinced by the performances of his players as the manager said that his team still has a lot of other areas where they need to improve on.

Kenny Jackett voiced his thoughts after the victory of Wolverhampton as he said: “To come away to Blackburn and get three points is great but we also feel there is more to come. We had some very good spells of possession and a threat up front’’

“But there were other times when balls into their front man we didn’t follow in and they were turning and shooting too easily with the shooting power they have got. We were disappointed with that and could have done better with those situations defensively’’

Jackett wants to base the playing style of his team around having sufficient possession as this allows the players enough time on the ball for them to play freely and ultimately score goals which is the eventual objective.

Wolverhampton Wanderers snatched the 7th spot of the English Championship League in the previous season but they are now one of the favorites of securing a top position and being promoted to the Premier League.  Kenny Jackett is well aware of all the expectations and pressure that he and his team have to cope with this time around but the English manager is certain that they will be able to live up to all the hype and deliver in the big stage.
