CELTICSHOULD APPOINT O’NEILL – SUTTON

Celtic legend Chris Sutton has called for Stoke City manager Michael O’Neill to be named the new manager at his former club. Chris Sutton talked up ex-Northern Ireland national team boss O’Neill as the potential Celtic boss while he was on BT Sports. He also said that ex-Sunderland manager Mick McCarthy would be a good fit as the Celtic manager. Mick McCarthy is the current manager at English Championship club Cardiff City. Celtic are in search of the perfect manager after Neil Lennon resigned on Monday. Neil Lennon was formerly a Celtic player and manager. He led the Scottish Premiership giants to a ninth successive league title last season but he has not been able to enjoy the same success in the league this season. Neil Lennon and Celtic have played second fiddle to Steven Gerrard and his Rangers team in the Scottish Premiership this season. Neil Lennon leaves Celtic 18 points adrift of leaders Rangers. Rangers are expected to wrap up the league title by next month.

Dedryck Boyata explains the real reason behind Celtic departure

Belgium international Dedryck Boyata has said that he did not go on strike to force through an exit from Celtic last summer. The centre-back spent four years with the Scottish champions but he left them on a free transfer at the end of last season after opting against signing a new contract with the club.

Boyata has since signed for Hertha in the Bundesliga and he has now clarified that he wanted a fresh challenge away from the Hoops. Speaking to Record Sport, he told: “It’s not true, I was accused of strikes last summer so I could move. I also played through the season, was in the Scottish team of the year and played my part in the title. The truth is, I’ve won everything at Celtic in four years. But it was time to start something new.”
